Win's committal service took place at 1.30pm on Tuesday 28 March, 2023, at Haltemprice Crematorium in Willerby, Hull, HU10 6NS, UK.
The Eulogy was in three parts: firstly, Win's granddaughter Isabel read aloud a poem which she had written in honour of her Grandpa and on behalf of all his grandchildren; then Robert, Win's son-in-law, read aloud some words which Win himself had written about what he regarded as "his greatest achievement"; and finally the Eulogy itself, read by Win's daughter Sonia on behalf of all the children.
A Poem – by Izzy Emrich
The proud gaze at those he has watched for decades grow up
The ray of sunshine he brings to everyone’s day
The love he shows to the world
The soft kiss like a feather
The way he re-sculpts my misshapen thoughts
How he can turn rain clouds into sunshine
The glint of hope in his eye no matter how loud the hurricane
The lights he puts up in everyone’s heart
The soft hand he gives me when my thoughts are lost at sea
His firm hand on my shoulder
The rich baritone melodies he sings to me
This isn’t just a gentleman
This is my grandpa
My greatest achievement – by Win Sande
